Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone new to the NES Wiki likely has a number of questions about the exact purpose and direction of the NES Wiki. To that end, below are answers to some of the more frequently asked questions.

What is the NES Wiki?

The NES Wiki is basically a repository for information; it serves to function as a catalogue of knowledge on things related to NESing; NESers, NESes, game concepts, histories, stories. In effect, it functions as a library of history; opinions, thoughts and analysis on games, players, and everything else.

Why is the NES Wiki important?

It might be an overstatement to say that history repeats itself, but certain historical trends do reoccur. By being able to view such data in a singular location, it makes it easier for participants in NESing to see what has gone before, what has worked, what hasn't, and what they might be able to do. In that regard it serves as important community resource by giving both form and function to the history of the community.

What can I contribute?

Every NESer, simply by participating in games, brings their own unique perspective on the progress of that game to the table. More than just their stories, or their performance within the game, or even their orders, they also have their logic, intentions, and objectives which may not ever see public discussion on the forums, or be touched on at all. In that capacity, every player has their own story to add to the epilogue or synopsis of a NES, ongoing or past.

How do I start?

Contributing is easy. You can edit a page just by hitting the edit button at the top of each. Although you can edit without creating an account, it is advised that you do so in order for easy recording of your contributions to the NES Wiki. Should you elect to do so, remember to visit the confirmation link sent to you by e-mail.

Is there anything I should know before starting?

Although it is by no means critical to view the Wikipedia reference materials on style and editing in order to contribute material to the NES Wiki, it is advised you undertake browsing them if you decide to contribute in-depth in order to establish a consistency of writing. All that is really required is we ask you to keep a semi-serious tone, and to spell and grammar-check when possible.

What should I work on first?

Anything you want! Any contribution is welcomed, although if you are interested in high-demand articles that are in need of attention, please view the Requested Articles or Wanted Pages page.
